THE Vice-President (VP) Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the public at large to construct girls’ dormitories to rescue female students from risky relationship with men, who cloud their aim to complete school with uncertainty.
Speaking during the opening of a female dormitory at Idetemya Secondary School which teaches science subjects in Misungwi District yesterday, Ms Samia said that it was important to the public at large to construct dormitories to rescue girl students from early pregnancies.
“The public in Misungwi District stunned me because I have done what I promised in my campaign during the 2015/2016 general election. I advocated to build girls’ dormitories and tirelessly pushed for it as a priority,” said VIP. She said parents and the public at large needed to ensure that girls learn in an ideal studying environment.
Girls should study in a comfortable situation. There ought to be good protection for girl students as full assurance for them to complete their study and not to become prostitutes at the school. The VIP appealed to the public to have a sense of support for development.
That stance, she said, will supplement development partners’ effort to improve school in a sustainable manner. Ms Samia who is in Mwanza for three-day official tour, has been inspecting school girls’ dormitories in Sengerema, Magu, Misungwi and Mwanza City where she opened a two-storey building that accommodates 128 clinical officers and medical technicians.
The VP did the same in Kwimba where she laid a foundation stone for St Anthony of Padua dormitory at Archbishop Mayala Girls’ Secondary School.
The school has a capacity for 120 students.
Fr Dr Moses Mapela, bishop’s Secretary, said that despite the school’s strength, it faced a shortage of classrooms, lack of transport and a library. It also had no transport means. He noted that their objective was to complete the dormitory by January 2017.
While she was in Magu District, the Vice-president launched fish ponds at Nsola Village in Magu District. She also handed over to the village one tractor that cost 30m/- for a group of fishermen.
