[Africa] Angola’s Luanda 2nd most expensive city in world

ANGOLAN capital Luanda is the most expensive city for expatriates to live in Africa and the second in the world after Hong Kong.

An annual report by global consultancy firm Mercer shows top ten most expensive cities, three are from Africa.
Luanda leads in the most expensive list followed by Kinshasa the capital of DRC while the third is Chad’s capital N’Djamena.
The survey of 209 cities took into account the cost of scores of items in each destination, including housing, food and entertainment.
Mercer found that an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood of Hong Kong rented for over 6,800 US dollars (over 12.6m/-) a month, compared to roughly 4,600 US dollars (8.2m/-) in London and just 4,000 US dollars (8m/-) in Tokyo.
Daily News online spot survey pegged Dar es Salaam rental rate at roughly 2,000 US dollars (4m/-) a month.
In the world number three is Switzerland’s Zurich, Singapore and Japan’s Tokyo.
They were followed by Kinshasa, which broke into the top 10 for the first time.
Shanghai, Geneva,Chad’s capital N’Djamena and Beijing completed the upper tier.
