Minister Mr Kassim Majaliwa today launched a 74.6bn/- state-of-the art that will improve reliability of power in Dar es Salaam.
The PM made the official launch of the project at Msasani where a new distribution controlling center is situated and beams the entire network. Also, the project financed 94.3 per cent by Finland and Tanzania 5.7 per cent, put new underground cable network, fiber optic data network and rehabilitation of the telephony network.
The project designed to improve the reliability of power in the city by switching lines in case one experienced a breakdown. On top of that from the controlling, via GPS, experts will be able to identify, switch on and off and send technicians to fix the fault area.
Finish energy firm Eltel Group designed and built portions of underground electrical transmission line in Dar es Salaam.
The objective of the project is to improve reliability of power supply in the area of Dar es Salaam by improving the transmission and distribution systems.
The project comprises the construction of a 132/33kV substation in the city centre, extension of the Ilala 13kV substation, and construction of a 132kV underground cable to connect Ilala and the new city centre substations. By doing so some existing overhead lines in the city centre are obsolete replaced by underground cable system.
The project will later be rolled to major cities—Mbeya, Mwanza, Arusha and Tanga.
