SEVENTY-year old Daud Haonga, a resident of Mpemba ward in Tunduma town, strangled himself to death using a bed sheet, leaving a message that he was tired of prolonged illness.
According to eye witnesses, the old man took his own life few days ago when all relatives and neighbours had left for their daily duties leaving him behind.
“When we returned in the evening, we found him hanging and already dead. We then saw a note reading ‘I have decided to take my own life so that I rest. I am tired of being sick without any relief,” said one of the relatives.
The village authority was alerted about the incident and called the police who rushed to the village to pick the body for further investigations.
Songwe Regional Police Commander Mathius Nyange, the police received the reports and hurried to the village but found the old man already dead and took his body to the hospital.
“After medical investigation we established that the deceased died after strangling himself so there was no one who was arrested over the incident...we have allowed the relatives to take the body for burial,” he said.
In another incident, a resident of Ilembo street in Mbozi District (43) was found dead after being stabbed with a sharp object by unknown people when he was working as a guard at Gs bar.
The killers also stole two motorcycles worth 3.7 million shillings. Police are investigating the incident.
