[Tanzania] Study hard, minister tells VETA students

A SENIOR government official has urged students in vocational training centres to study hard to enable them compete in the shrinking labour market.

Stella Manyanya, Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, made the call yesterday during a visit to Kipawa Training College in Dar es Salaam.
She said students pursuing courses at Vocational Education Training Authority centres stand a better chance of getting jobs because of the acquisition of the special skills. “The government is committed to ensure there is an attractive learning environment and enough and modern leaning materials.
Students are obliged to work hard in building a strong foundation for their future,” she said. She advised students not to be choosy on jobs but must be ready to work anywhere adhering to professionalism.
“Working hard would help you create your own job opportunities instead of relying on government employment or the private sector,” the minister said.
Last week, Minister for Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Prof Joyce Ndalichako, said that the government has set aside an adequate budget to buy modern tools for vocational centres.
